Many workplaces describe themselves as a “family business,” but DanPhyls The Hair Salon, has taken that phrase to a whole new level. Owners Danny & Phyllis English have been married for much of their combined careers. They met in barber college in 1974 and have been in business together for 39 years, 29 of those years at their current location in the Hilton Houston Westchase.
“We have four children so we’re partners at home and partners here,” said Phyllis. “The salon is like a fifth child.” While their early talents may have been limited to barber skills, they now do all types of hair treatments, including coloring and permanents.
Their oldest customer is in his 80s, while a 4-year old patron represents a third-generation client. “We have clients in Livingston and Conroe,” said Phyllis. “They drive past hundreds of salons to get here. We appreciate their loyalty.”
