Wonderland in Westchase

Families Invited to 2016 Wonderland in Westchase

Houston is having a hard time settling into fall, much less winter. But the hearty elves responsible for organizing Wonderland in Westchase are already hard at work preparing for the 13th annual event scheduled for Thursday, December 15, 2016. That’s when more than 50,000 pounds of snow will fall (guaranteed!) on the campus of First Methodist Houston Westchase to welcome Santa, Mrs.Claus and thousands of Houston children and their families to celebrate this annual holiday festival.

Choirs from area elementary schools will perform along with magician Carter Blackburn. Volunteers from First Methodist Houston will hand out free holiday treats, while area restaurants will offer tasting samples of their specialty dishes.

Other scheduled attractions include a petting zoo, fire truck rides, pony rides, hay rides, laser tag, face painting, and a climbing wall, as well as games and inflatables.

“It’s a joy to see so many families come back to enjoy Wonderland year after year,” said Quillian Center Director Tom Gaden, who chairs the organizing committee that brings Wonderland to life. “We’re always looking for something to add to the event — some attraction that we didn’t have last year — to keep the event exciting and new each year.”

The 2016 event will be from 6 to 9 pm at the First Methodist Church campus, 10570 Westpark. Admission is a new, unwrapped toy or non-perishable food — both of which will be distributed to area families through West Houston Assistance Ministries, House of Amos and First Methodist Houston. Cash contributions are also accepted and will be distributed through First Methodist’s Missions team.

Children under 10 are invited to participate in our coloring contest. Two winners will be selected (5 and under and 6 to 10 years old). Each will receive a Quillian Center swim pass and share the opportunity to light the official Wonderland Christmas tree. Coloring contest forms are due on December 7, 2016.
